The Galvanizer is a SCAF weapon in Dead Space 3, and is available for construction from a blueprint at a Bench.
Overview
A compact SCAF-issue burst-fire Submachine Gun. Each pull of the trigger fires four rounds simultaneously, designed to eliminate targets at mid to long ranges. Like most SCAF weapons, the Galvanizer is a bullpup, loading from the rear behind the trigger assembly.
Strategy
The Galvanizer has good damage to start out, but should be upgraded as soon as possible to maximize its firepower and increase the magazine size. It is decently effective at killing Necromorphs, particularly smaller ones; once upgraded, the burst-fire can shred Slashers at range. The Galvanizer is strongest when used against human targets. Members of The Circle will fall quickly to a couple of bursts to the body, and one burst may behead them if carefully aimed. There is a small pause between each burst fired, lasting barely a second. The burst-fire is effective at mid to long range, but the pause between bursts can leave players vulnerable to attackers up close. It's highly recommended to equip a strong close-range secondary tool to compensate for this weakness.
Trivia
- The Galvanizer bears some visual similarities to the real-life FN-P90 Submachine Gun, and functions similar to the MP5K with its burst-fire setting.
- The SCAF 163rd Reaper detachment on Tau Volantis used a specialized version of the Galvanizer, the Show Stopper.
- It is impossible to switch the weapon to full automatic; it will always fire in four-round bursts.
